Alien quesion

My wife and I were introducing the Alien legacy to some friends, and they had all kinds of questions about the derelict space ship, the elephant people, etc. I had some answers based on what you guys had been saying was from the comic book dark horse put out a loooong time ago... there was a series or something that was authorized by the Alien creators.
Now my wife is psyched up to read these comics.

What were the date/issue numbers?

Is this available in TPB that I can get fairly easily?

If not, what's a reasonable price on eBay?
I want them mainly to read them, they're not going to be stuck in a vault to grow in value like my collector plates [img]wink.gif[/img]

...well, here's the authorized movie TPB. But, it won't give you any more info than the movie did. It follows the script to a T. Still worthy reading for an Alien fan, though.

...as far as Dark Horse comics, I go back to about 1988. There were several different comic book titles that DH produced Aliens under.

...first, Dark Horse Presents. They had three to four different titles in one book. Issues I know of, 24, 34, 36. (1988-1989)

...second, DHP - Dark Horse Presents. Same deal. three to four different titles per book. Issues I know of, 42, 43. (1990).

...third, Dark Horse Comics. Again, three to four titles per book, but in some cases, only one, or two. Issues I know of, 3, 4,5, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16 17, 18, 19 22, 23, 24, 25 (1992-1994).

...fourth, Dark Horse Presents Aliens. Multi titled. 101, 102 117, 140.

...A Decade of Dark Horse (4 part series)

,,,another interesting issue your friends might be interested in, is a back issue compilation, called DHPS Platinum Edition. It reprints issue #56, from I believe the DHP series. The title is, The Alien. The Alien is the elephant nosed Alien you referred to from the movie, Alien. I believe that's the first appearance it ever made.

...another great book, is Aliens, Newt's Tale. It's a two issue series, double book size book.

...but, don't even get 'em started on AvP. That's a whole other story!

....anyway, I'm sure there's more out there and I'm only going by what I have. So, if anyone has anything more to add, please do.

...they left a lot of holes, but the story itself was pretty cool. I think there's a whole lot more to build on there, that's for sure. I'm just waiting for AvP 2 now. [img]smile.gif[/img]

I see your point StV, AVP did have a great story base, but I still feel it was too short and had too many errors. What ruined it for me was that PA tried too much to recreate Ripley, not the myth of the alien and predator species.
And don't get me started with the whole human and PRedator look into each others eyes. [img]frown.gif[/img]

So there is going to be a AVP 2?

I did not like Dark Horse's initial story continuation past Aliens... (which got killed theoretically by the creation of the Alien3 movie). I absolutely hated the idea of a QUEEN QUEEN or whatever the hell it was they concocted.

What I did enjoy were most of the short stories based on none of the characters.
